This or That is the fourth 2D Gamemode added to Gimkit. This or That is a gamemode where instead of answering questions, you get to choose if you want to move to the blue side, or red side. This or That is a 2D mode and is not an Echo vs. Vortex mode. This or That started the "Fun & Games, No Kit Needed" category. This mode was expected to be removed on November 4 2022 according to a YouTube video posted by Josh, however, it is still there after November 4 2022.
According to the Gimkit website, This or That gameplay is described as:
"And now for something completely different! This or That is a trivia battle game that makes for a great icebreaker to help your students get to know each other. This mode is perfect for Would You Rather Questions, Polls, Does This Apply To You, and (of course) Trivia. Unlike other Gimkit game modes, you won’t connect a kit or even add questions inside of Gimkit. Instead, you’ll use your own trivia or icebreaker questions with this fun 2D voting system. Once the game is started, just share a question and assign a color, red or blue, to two possible answers. Ask students to move their Gims to one side or the other. Use the Freeze Players button to lock students’ answers. The award & ghost buttons give you the option to eliminate incorrect answers and reward students who nailed it. Have fun getting to know each other and testing your knowledge!" You can view the video explanation here.
This or That is a great way to get people to know each other! The host should ask the students a question, such as "Do you have a sibling?" If the answer is yes, they move to the red side. If the answer is no, they move to the blue side. You can than freeze everybody using the freeze button.
You can use This or That for trivia! Ask a question like "What is 6+8?" If a student thinks the answer is 14, they would go to the red side. If a student thinks the answer is 15, they would go to the blue side. You can than freeze everyone, and if Red is correct, click the button that says give Red 5 points. If Blue is correct, click the button that says give Blue 5 points. This or That is also great for true or false questions.
Similar to trivia, but instead of just giving the correct team points, you can turn the incorrect team into ghosts. They will turn invisible, and play continues until one person wins!
This mode is great for Would you Rather questions. You can ask a question like, "Would you rather lose all of your money, or all of your apps?" The student would go to the red side for money, or the blue side for apps.
The map for this game mode is very small, featuring no props!
