Don't Look Down is a 2D gamemode and the first gamemode to introduce the platforming mechanic. Don't Look Down is a platformer gamemode where the player must reach the highest point possible.
Game Setup
In Don't Look Down, the player needs to climb six "summits", which are strings of themed props that can be jumped on. The game ends either when a player makes it to the top, or when the time limit expires. By default, players are able to fall all the way down to the bottom if they miss a jump, but if the host enables checkpoints they will be teleported to their highest reached summit upon landing on the ground. In order to move, players need energy, which can be acquired by answering questions. Moving and jumping will drain energy, and players will be unable to move if they run out. Like all platformer gamemodes, the player has a double jump and a relatively slow movement speed.
Summits
Each summit has a unique theme, as well as a higher starting point than the previous. While most summits simply feature props to jump on, the sixth and final summit introduces lasers that toggle on and off, teleporting players that walk into them back to the start (or to the beginning of summit 6 if checkpoints are enabled).
Summits | Start | End | Name |
---|---|---|---|
Summit 1 | 0m | 210m | Emberwall Ascent |
Summit 2 | 211m | 274m | Coral Climb |
Summit 3 | 275m | 448m | Agent Adventure |
Summit 4 | 449m | 573m | Growing Up |
Summit 5 | 574m | 704m | Frosty Peaks |
Summit 6 | 705m | 999m | One Way Up |
End | 1000m | 1000m | Climb Complete |
History
Similar to One Way Out, This or That, Farmchain, Snowy Survival, and Snowbrawl, this mode had a testing period before it launched and was played on the official Gimkit discord server. Several changes were made between testing periods and post-launch, as several props were moved around to make the game more beginner-friendly. Originally, Gims had slippery movement and less gravity, making skipping props easier but harder to control as you could not stop air movement manually, and coyote jumps were difficult. A bug was discovered during testing where lasers never turned off making the game impossible to complete.
